Science in the Cinema: PHILADELPHIA
4:00pm – 6:30pm
Garneau Theatre, 8712-109street
From the Facebook invite:
In 1993 Tom Hanks won an Academy Award for his performance in Jonathan Demme’s Philadelphia for his portrayal of a man living with HIV. It was a watershed film, not with out it critics and champions.
On Saturday January 16th the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR) will be screening Philadelphia providing a new generation of audiences an opportunity to see the film on the big screen and a chance for those who have seen the film before to revisit it more than a decade after it was released.
The screening is part of AHFMR’s Science in the Cinema series. After the screening AHFMR researcher Dr. Chris Power, Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta will lead a brief discussion on the latest research in AIDS and HIV.
FREE ADMISSION & POPCORN!
