Obscene
Performance by Ian Mozdzen
Time: 6:00-7:30pm
Venue: Expressionz Café
9938 – 70th Avenue

Part vision of classical beauty, part bloody emergency, and part jerk-off fantasy, Obscene exposes the turbulent inner world of a man seeking peace through self-castration. A spiritual and visceral exploration of the last moments he shares with his genitals before freeing his body of them, Obscene‘s series of unfolding images – angelic, animalistic, chaotic, genderbending, … pornographic, and butchering – cut to a liberation that’s as conflicted as it is resolute. Obscene is a hybrid of clown, dance, drag, Butoh, actionism, and theatre.
Ian Mozdzen is a performer/creator from Winnipeg. He gets off on theatre, dance, and performance art – especially in combination, and especially when covered in something like mustard, ketchup, or eggs. He’s made performances after the likes of Georges Bataille, Tom Cruise, John Wayne Gacy, cockfighting, Monopoly, The Rite of Spring, and the Marquis de Sade. “Obscene” was/is his first full-length solo performance – and it’s been reborn for Exposure after births in Winnipeg (2007&8), Toronto (2008), and Philadelphia (2009)
